Hyderabad: GHMC on Saturday launched Deepam scheme to distribute gas connections to the women of Self Help Groups (SHG) free of cost. The GHMC proposes to give 8,453 connections.

The civic body has allotted Rs 15 crore for this scheme. Similarly, revolving funds of Rs 14.74 crore to 14,743 SHGs and Rs 71.86 lakh under ‘Vaddi Leni Runalu’ programme to 3,362 SHGs were also been given at an Asset Distribution programme organised by GHMC at People’s Plaza.
Minister of Information Technology K T Rama Rao said the government was committed to provide all the facilities to the needy. He asked poor people not to pay any money to anyone for applying for any of the benefit schemes launched by the government.
He said they would allot 75 seats out of 150 for the women during the GHMC elections. He said the government has brought several schemes for the benefit of poor and needy.
“TRS government is providing pension of Rs 1,000 to the senior citizens and Rs 1,500 to the disabled,” he said, adding that government would also provide the double bedroom houses to all the poor families in Telangana as promised.
The Union Minister for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya appreciated the State government’s effort and said the Centre was ready to provide all the financial assistance for housing development in the State.
GHMC Commissioner Janardhan Reddy thanked the leaders for their support to the corporation and said they were striving hard to offer all the schemes of the government in a fair way. Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy, Minister for Commercial Taxes T Srinivas Yadav and the senior officials of the GHMC were present at the programme.
