Hyderabad: The Lok Satta Party on Saturday held a demonstration in front of the main office of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) to highlight water scarcity. The Lok Satta activists holding water cans staged the protest.

Speaking on the occasion, Lok Satta State joint secretary Deviprasad, Greater Hyderabad unit president Dosapati Rami Reddy and its secretary Sambi Reddy said the HMW & SB was releasing water at the rate of 352 million gallons a day (MGD) as against the requirement of 530 MGD. There was cute shortage of water in various parts of the city.

Citizens were facing severe hardships. They expressed the fear that the water scarcity would get aggravated during the summer.

The Lok Satta leaders said the water was being supplied once in four days now as against the early alternate days earlier. They demanded that the State government take immediate steps to bring the Godavari waters to the city to ease the situation.

They urged the authorities concerned to increase the number of water absorption pits in the city for which Rs 132 crore unspent funds were available. Recalling that the ruling party leaders were frequently stating that the Hyderabad city would be transformed into a global city, the Lok Satta leaders urged the State government to ensure water supply to the citizens first before they embarked on the ambitious scheme.

The Loksatta party leaders displayed flexes with slogan “Neellu-Kanneellu” (water and tears) at the protest programme. Loksatta leaders Hyma Praveen, Ganga Bhavani, Raghavaiah and others participated.
