Mahabubnagar: The police are keeping tight vigil on the Legislative Council elections to be held on December 27 in Mahabubnagar district in view of candidates of the main parties joining the fray. Also, there is stiff competition among the candidates belonging to the Congress, Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and Telugu Desam Party.

The administration has made all arrangements, including webcam and video camera facilities for the polling in Mahabubnagar, Narayanpet, Gadwal, Vanaparthi and Nagarkurnool centres. The last three have been identified as problematic. Heavy police security is being provided at these centres, according to Joint Collector Ramkishan.
A three-tyre security is being provided for the polls. There are 1,262 voters in 64 mandals. Two MPTC members of Utkoor mandal have been disqualified by the AP High Court following their defection to another party. Officials have denied voting rights to them.
Of the 14 MLAs in the district, six have no voting rights as they are from gram panchayats. They include Ministers Jupalli Krishna Rao and Lakshma Reddy. This has disappointed the pink party.
The voters who have been confined to their respective camps so far are to come to the polling centres at 8 am to cast their votes.
Leaders of the rival parties, particularly D K Aruna, a former Minister, have accused the TRS of resorting to abuse of power for winning the elections.
