Soda Bottle Opener Wala’s limited edition thali, ‘Festive Bhonu’ on the menu till January 15

The only Bombay Irani café and bar of Hyderabad, Soda Bottle Opener Wala’s Parsi cuisine gets a limited edition Thali that is completely a new take from the regular menu.

The Christmas and New Year special ‘Festive Bhonu’ is yet another testimony of the multiple influences that make Parsi cuisine what it is. The Thali gets its authenticity from the word – Pickle – the homemade Brinjal pickle and tomato chutney.

Also included in the thali is the simple yet very Parsi, Navsari Potato salad tossed in Kolah vinegar to give it a unique sweet and sour taste with a refreshing combination of onion, tomatoes and cucumbers, lovingly called Kachumbar; the rotlis to go with the curries.

Festive Bhonu features 10 dishes that include Chicken Rajpipla (the Gujarati touch) and its vegetable version for the no-meat thali, Chicken pulao, fish cutlets, Bombaiyya Potato fry and the aromatic Parsi Masala Dal.

While we do not call this the best that the restaurant has, it is surely a welcome deviation from the regular menu. The highlight of the thali, in addition to fish cutlets and masala dal, is the desserts.

Savouring the best first – the Daruwala Trifle with its Old Monk soaked fruits, layered with jelly and custard cannot get more perfect for the festive season and to pair with it is the Matunga Coffee Cake—the chocolate-coffee flavoured goodness that’s the right balance of sweet and bitter making it an ideal ode to the coffee district of Mumbai.

Also on the thali is the mini falooda (why mini – because once you have had this wholesome drink the Bawa way, you will be too full for the feast ahead).

Festive Bhonu will be available till January 15 for all those who can’t have enough of the festive indulgencies.
