Nizamabad: Demanding the completion of 22 package works of Pranahita-Chevella project, the Congress party along with joint action committee, comprising leaders of various political parties is conducting ‘Jala Sadhana Padayatra’ on December 29. The padayatra would be from Bhoompally to Gandhari crossroads.

Leader of Opposition in Telangana Legislative Council, Mohammad Ali Shabbir, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly K Jana Reddy, MLC Aakula Lalitha, former Speaker Suresh Reddy, former Major Irrigation Minister
P Sudarshan Reddy, Yendela Lakshminarayana and several other leaders from the district would be taking part in the padayatra.
Speaking to the media here on Monday, Taher-Bin-Hamdan, Nizamabad DCC president said that Congress started the Pranahita-Chevella project to meet the irrigation and drinking water requirements of the district. Upon completion, the project would provide water to cultivate nearly three lakh acres of land through 20, 21 and 22 packages.
The official TRS government agreed to continue the 20 and 21 package works but put aside the 22 package works which would provide drinking and irrigation water to 1.56 lakh acres in Kamareddy and Yellareddy Assembly constituencies.
Though the TRS leaders said that they would provide water for irrigation purposes from River Godavari through Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation schemes, it was not possible to construct Lift Irrigation schemes because Kamareddy Revenue Division is situated on the area upper than the Kaleshwaram region, Taher said.
He urged the people of Kamareddy region to take part in the padayatra and pressurise the TRS government to start the 22 package works of Pranahita-Chevella project.
