Peddamma Temple, located at Jubilee Hills will start off with Abhishekam at 3 am on Friday. “No special darshan will be carried on Friday because of the expected rush of devotees.

A common darshan will be allowed,” says Rama Koteswararao, priest at Peddamma temple, who shared the mantra for chanting that goes, “Sarva chaitanya roopaam thaam, aadyaam vidyaam cha dheemahi, Buddhim yaa naha prachodayaath.”

Later, a special decoration will be carried out for Goddess Ammavaru. Security in-charge at the temple, Ramu says, “In comparison to normal days, more number of devotees is expected on January 1.

Special queue lines are being arranged to manage the rush. We are expecting 20,000 to 30,000 devotees on the day. We also have 30 more security guards specially allotted to make sure everything goes sound.”

Temple priests advise devotees to chant the Gayatridevi mantra for a blissful start to the New Year. Hanuman Temple at Madhapur will also be having a special puja followed by a separate archan for devotees.

Temple priest, Aacharya says, “We are arranging queue lines to ensure a safe darshan. Special Prasadam is being prepared for the day for the devotees.”

The executive manager of Birla temple, Shyam Kutari says, “We are making arrangements to ensure safe and holy darshan on the New Year day. The temple is decorated with all kinds of flowers.”

While temples will be having their gala darshans on Friday, churches in the city are gearing up for the ‘Midnight Watch’ for Thursday.

The Immaculate Conception Church in Kukatpally will be holding special prayers from 11 pm on the New Year Eve. This will be followed by exchanging gifts with fellow people in the church.

Assistant Parish Priest, Prabhu Das says, “We welcome the New Year with prayers. We thank the Almighty for His blessings throughout the year and pray for good health for the coming year. Candles are lit by people and prayers are offered.”

Secratary in-charge at St Mary’s in Secunderabad, Bruce says, "At midnight, we pray and welcome the New Year for all the good things we wish to happen."Some churches prepare an effigy of the passing year and burn it bidding the past year goodbye.
