“The process for handing over land rights to the Exhibition Society is complete and the formality will be completed soon,” said Etala Rajender, the Minister for Finance and President of the Exhibition Society.

He was addressing the media at the Exhibition Grounds in Nampally on Wednesday. He recalled that last year the Chief Minister, K Chandrasekhar Rao had promised that ‘pattas’ would be issued as the ‘Numaish’ is organised on leased land.

Satyender Vanam, secretary, Exhibition Society said, “We want to preserve the lung space but the land rights would help in utilising the space all through the year.”

The handing over of the 26-acres land to the Exhibition Society comes as a major relief to the Society that finances 18 education institutions in the Dtate. Aditya Margam, joint secretary, Exhibition Society said, “Once the Society gets complete land rights it could utilise the space more efficiently and hold two, three and four day events.

To setup stalls for the annual Numaish, one month time is required and the setup is such that certain events cannot be accommodated. Now, more short-term exhibitions can be held.” The Exhibition Society gets several queries for events, such as Gems and Jewellery and Vintage Cars Exhibition.

Free Parking on GHMC parking area

There is some good news for visitors to the Numaish starting on Friday. People will now be able to park two-wheelers at the GHMC parking space in the 1.5 kms radius of the Exhibition Grounds, along the stretch from Gruhakalpa to MJ Market and in the adjacent lane, free of cost.

Visitors wishing to park vehicles in the Housing Board complexes however, will have to pay. Etala Rajender said that rates will be prominently displayed at all the parking lots.

The Traffic Police will monitor the parking system. “In the past few years, people were fleeced as there was no specified rate for parking,” notified Rajender.

Heightened security

There will be a three-tier security system that includes a metal frame detector and dog squad. A police stall will be setup to meet emergencies.

External security agencies have been engaged to manage the three entry points at Gandhi Bhavan, Ajanta Gate and Goshamahal Gate; about 200 volunteers will be posted at the entrances.
