The MLA on Tuesday distributed financial assistance under the aegis of the town-based Sarvodaya Youth Organisation (SYO) to a group of 20 women, who were victims of domestic violence. A total of Rs 2 lakh was distributed with each woman receiving Rs 10, 000 to take up livelihood activities.
Speaking at a programme organised at the SYO office in Hanamkonda, the MLA urged the women to make use of the amount to undertake small enterprises to make an earning.
The victims of domestic violence were often left uncared and the SYO made a laudable effort to support them by providing financial assistance.
The MLA asked the Youth Organisation to expand its activities to support more number of women whose lives were tormented by acts of violence at domestic level.
Women and Child Welfare Project Director M Sabitha speaking on the occasion urged the women to think innovatively to increase their living standards by strengthening their financial status.
Sarvodaya Youth Organisation secretary P Damodar informed that the organisation has so far supported 40 women by providing financial assistance and they were all now in a sound state financially.
SYO Project Manager M Vijay, Gender Expert V Indira, Project Coordinator Hepshiba, Field Officer Ch Ravinder and others were present.
