Officials stall minor girls marriage

Karimnagar: The district officials stalled marriage of a minor girl in Pothireddypalli of Veenavanka mandal on Wednesday. The marriage was scheduled to be held at 11.30 am but stopped due to the officials’ intervention.
Resident of Pothireddypalli, Hanumandla Janaiah and his wife Padma fixed the marriage of their 17-year-old daughter with one Raju of Himayatnagar and made all arrangements for the wedding. Some of the villagers informed the matter to the Revenue Divisional Officer, who in turn alerted other officials.
Tahsildar Bala Singh and Sub-Inspector Kiran along with their staff rushed to the village and stalled the wedding ceremony on the ground that the girl was a minor. Counselling was given to the parents of both - bride and bride groom and asked to perform the marriage after the girl becomes major.
