Karimnagar: Major Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao assured to provide water to 25,000 acres in the district in the coming two years and water would be supplied to two crops in a year.

The Minister started renovation works of Thotapalli tank of Bejjenki mandal on Wednesday. Addressing a public meeting, Harish Rao said the tank was a major water resource for a village.
Inundation of five villages and 3,000 acres of agricultural land was avoided by changing the design of Thotapalli reservoir and saved Rs 1,000 crore of public money.
The previous government had taken up the project with Rs 1,050 crore with an aim to provide water to 45,000 acres. With the change of the design, the cost of the project has come down to Rs 150 crore and irrigation area has enhanced to 52,000 acres, he added.
The Irrigation Minister said the State government was committed to complete all irrigation projects on war footing to supply water to one crore acres of land.
“We are going ahead with an aim to provide water to one lakh acres in a constituency and drinking water facility to each and every house,” he added.
Assuring to store 3 TMCs of water in Mid Manair by next June, Harish Rao expressed confidence to bring Mid Manair water to Thotapalli reservoir by June 2017.
The Minister said that Karimnagar district would be flooded with Godavari River water.
