The 10 division in the Uppal Assembly Constituency in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits suffer from incessant traffic jams, damaged roads, poor sewerage networks, supply of contaminated drinking water and more.
The 10 divisions is the constituency include Kapra (division 1) with 49,764 voters, AS Rao Nagar (division 2) with 40,046 voters, Cherlapally (division 3) with 40, 749 voters, HB Colony (division 4) with 44, 009 voters, Mallapur (division 5) with 47,073 voters, Nacharam (division 6) with 44, 632 voter, Hasbsiguda (division 7) with 47,425 voters, Ramanthapur (division 8) with 50,879 voters, Chilkanagar (division 9) with 43,346 voters and Uppal with 54, 297 voters.
Although, the GHMC officials, in the wake of elections have repaired and laid Black Top (BT) roads in the main roads of the Kapra division recently but, the roads in the internal areas are yet to be repaired. “The internal roads were damaged by the Water Board in order to repair pipelines in the streets,” said B Sunitha, resident of Bhavani Nagar. “Neither the Water Board nor the GHMC has bothered to repair these for the past six months in spite of lodging several complaints,” she added.
No FOBs and heavy traffic jams
The main road near Uppal circle and the stretch between Mallapur main road and Noma Kalyana Mandapam in division five are extremely narrow and heavily damaged. Heavy traffic jam is a common site on the road leading from the junction near Radhika theatre to Saket.
"Due to the passage of vehicles through narrow roads there has been traffic jams for hours," said R Sudhakar Rao, resident of Dammaiguda.
"Due to heavy traffic flow, senior citizens in the adjoining areas of AS Rao Nagar have been finding it difficult to cross the road,” informed Gayatri, resident of Bhavani Nagar.
“The GHMC should concentrate on road widening at Uppal Junction to avoid frequent traffic jams, where thousands of vehicles travel every day,” said Venkanna, resident of Ramanthapur.
“The stretch between Mallapur main road and Noma Kalyana Mandapam towards the industrial area are in pathetic condition,” complaints Rami Reddy, a resident of Mallapur.
In addition, heavy traffic jams have been noticed at Trimulgherry junction as late as 10 pm, due to the closure of the AOC road in Kapra division. “The situation would get from bad to worse if AOC road is permanently closed,” warned Priyanka Rao, a resident of SBH colony.
Water woes
The areas in Ramanthapur and Uppal have been facing severe water crises from past three years.
“The water supply is contaminated; it is mixed with the sewer water," said Rama Rao, Bharat Nagar resident. A similar situation is faced by the residents of Nethaji Nagar, Srinivasa Nagar colony and other areas in Kapra, which has a poor sewer network. “We have complained the same to concerned officials and the corporators but, all our attempts went in vain,” said Bharathi, resident of Pramila Colony.
“The Manjeera water supplied in Devendra Nagar and Rajendranagar in Ramanthapur division emulate foul smell,” said Shyam Sundar, a Vivek Nagar resident.
About 20,000 houses in Uppal Assembly constituency are without pattas.
“The residents living in Sharada Nagar, Nehru Nagar, Bhagat Singh Nagar, Balakrishna Colony, Laxminarayana colony, Satyanarayana Nagar, Indira Nagar and about 25 other areas in Ramanthapur Nagar and Kapra have no pattas,” said Fayaz, a resident of Chilkanagar.
“There about 20,000 houses, which were constructed in 150 sq ft in all the divisions but, they are not recognised by the GHMC,” he added.
The problems are galore but none of the ex-Corporators are willing to react on the matter.
