Publishers and writers look for opportunities in Vijayawada

City-based publishers and writers are looking upto the government of Andhra Pradesh to provide them a platform at global level in the new capital, Amaravati. Publishers from district have voiced their opinions in this regard and are asking for adequate measures to encourage the writers from this region.

Krishna district is known for a score of publishers who have been active from early 1960s and are famous all over the country. With more than a dozen of high profile publishing houses in the city, there is no doubt that the district holds strong roots in culture, literature and arts.

Now that the capital city is sketched out, publishers from the city and writers are hoping for a full-fledged platform for them to come out with best creative work and laurels.

Former president of the Vijayawada Book Festival Society, Ramaswamy said, “Government should encourage local talent and tap the resources available to enable the writers come out with their best. Our writers are capable and the government has to focus on making them win a Man Booker prize.”

VBFS president B Babjee said, “It is important at this point of time to emphasise on what we already have. The publishing industry is very huge and the book reading campaign is being promoted across the State by VBFS. Mini book exhibitions, book vans are touring the places to reach out to the public of all ages. Government should realise and recognise our potential and make necessary implementations to improve the stature.”

The ongoing 27 Book fare is being considered an opportunity by the writers, laureates and publishers to bring forth their requests, plans and opinions to government’s notice.
