Recognsied worldwide as a pandemic, diabetes is prevalent in about 69.2 million Indians and by 2035, it is estimated to grow to 123.5 million. “It is emergency in slow motion,” said Sachin. “It is growing gradually. A few months ago, I spoke to my wife on the issue and she said that there are 5.5 million diabetics in the country and after few months it increased to 60 million and today it has increased to seventy millions.

About 50 per cent of the people don’t even know about their disease and this is a record we should not be proud of,” said the former opening batsmen.Sachin appealed to the people to change their mindset to cope up with diabetes. He said, “There is a ‘chalta hai’ attitude among the people and we have to change out that.”

Adding a note on addressing the disease, Sachin said, “To reduce diabetes, it is important that people go for regular check up to doctors. Also, people should do more outdoor activities like walking and jogging regularly.”“I wish that more and more people become a part of this movement and take proactive action to stay healthy and fit,” expressed Sachin.

Vice-president and GM of Novo Nordisk, Melvin D’Souza and corporate vice-president Mads Bo Larsen were also present at the event.
