The Nehru Zoological Park (NZP) is looking out for volunteers who have a passion for animals and a keen interest in nature and conservation activities.

With a growing number of people visiting the zoo, the authorities are planning to engage zoo guides on a voluntary basis. G Ravi, curator, NZP said, “There is no age bar and people who have a genuine interest can apply.

A week’s training would be provided before they become full-fledged guides.” Initially the volunteer zoo guides would be engaged on public holidays and on weekends and later, on regular days. “To begin, 10 zoo guides will be inducted and the number will be increased over time,” informed the curator.

The volunteer guides would be paid but, the amount is still not decided upon. The applicants need to be well-versed in Telugu, English and Urdu. Those interested can send their resume to [email protected] or contact 040-24477355 Tourist spots need guides With a growing number of foreign and domestic tourists, the demand for guides at tourist spots in the city is growing. There are licensed guides at Golconda Fort, Salar Jung Museum, Charminar and other tourist spots.

A Nagender Reddy, director, Salar Jung Museum said that there are about six to seven licenced guides at the museum. “The guides charge anywhere between Rs 100 to Rs 200, depending upon the size of the group visiting,” he said. N Taher, superintending archaeologist, ASI, Hyderabad circle said, “The State tourism department provides training and license to the tourist guides. They are provided ID cards.” There are, however, no guides available at the Chowmohallah Palace in the Old City but, the tourism department provides a guide to large groups and dignitaries visiting the palace.
