Marching ahead for a healthy womanhood

The second edition of Hyderabad Pinkathon will be held on March 6 at People’s Plaza,” announced Milind Soman, founder of Pinkathon, while addressing a conference on Tuesday. Other dignitaries at the conference like Dr Sunita Krishnan, chief functionary and co-founder of Prajwala, Hardayal Prasad, SBI CGM Hyderabad, veteran actress Amala Akkineni and RJ Priyanka, expressed their wholehearted support for the noble cause.

Expressing his delight Milind said, “We are very excited to bring Pinkathon to Hyderabad once again. We are confident that the city and its people will support us and help make this run a success. We now organise Pinkathon in eight cities. More than 10,000 women run at each of these events over the 3km, 5km, 10km and 21km distances.”

The highlight of this edition is the participation of 30 visually impaired girls in different category run. “To prepare them for the main day, unique training sessions are designed with the help and coordination of sighted runners,” Milind informed.

They are also organising special training runs in various parts of Hyderabad for the registered participants who have requested training for the main day. There will be other 40 differently abled participants in the Pinkathon.

Apart from this, Bajaj Electricals will be planting 1000 trees to commemorate the Pinkathon going green in Hyderabad. With the Pinkathon's one-of-a-kind initiative, their medical partner Apollo Hospitals will be providing a Medical tag for every single participant.

This medical tag will provide free Mammogram to all the participants above 45 years of age and a free Health check-up for those under 45 years. Visually Impaired runner Mamta, Cancer Survivor Shweta, and RJ Priyanka were announced as the mascots for the runs.

“All proceeds raised from the event will be used for the expenses incurred in organising and marketing the event, and by the Women's Cancer Initiative in its fight against breast cancer.
