Of late, the water spread has reduced considerably. The HMDA website FTL map shows water spread area as 34.24 acres as on December 12, 2013/ May 20, 2014, whereas official water spread area of the lake is around 19.80 hectares.
A team from Save Our Urban Lakes (SOUL) visited the lake on Wednesday. Ongoing constructions, landfills and hyacinth is taking a toll on the lake, informed a member of SOUL.
Lubna Sarwath, member of SOUL says, “Google satellite imagery dated July 11, 2014 and 2016 depicts landfills and constructions inside the buffer zone and FTL.”
The lake is filled with hyacinth which is an indicator of sewage inflows. SOUL has given representation to Lake Protection Committee & Commissioner, GHMC, WALTA authority and member, LPC & district collector and mandal revenue officer to stop ongoing constructions and landfills.
