Making our roads safer

The Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Authority will observe 27th Road Safety Week between January 22 and 28. The theme for this year’s week-long campaign was “Road Safety- Time for Action”, according to Deputy Transport Commissioner (DTC) V Sundar.

Talking to the news men at his chamber here on Thursday, Sundar said that the Minister for Transport Sidda Raghava Rao will inaugurate the week long initiation on Friday and will flag off the motor cycle rally to spread awearness on road safety among the youth.

The week long safety awareness campaign would mainly focus on enlightening the people about the safety measures to be followed on the roads to avoid accidents, he said. The awareness campaign would be highlighted with Burra Kathalu performed by stage artists, pamphlet distribution, rallies and seminars across the city, he added.

The DTC also informed that as part of awareness programs, officials will be making Power Point presentations and play animated video clips highlighting the importance of road safety. Interesting fact is that all these programmes have been specifically designed for students by other students, he said.

The RTA department took a decision to reduce the accidents by bringing awareness on road safety in this week and the same will be taken as a plan of action all the year by conducting monthly and quarterly drives in colleges, villages and also for professional employees.

“This initiation is not just for one week. It will be taken as an exercise to reach our goals in reducing the number of deaths,” said DTC V Sundar. RTO M Surendra, Motor Vehicle Inspectors Mrutunjaya Raju, Ravi Kumar and other officials also present at the news conference.
