Warangal: Tribal Welfare and Tourism Minister A Chandulal launched awareness programmes by RTA, district administration and the police as part of 27th National Road Safety Week, which began on Thursday. He also launched a signature campaign in Hanamkonda on the day. Speaking on the occasion the Minister stressed the need of following road safety measures such as avoiding over speed and wearing helmets by two-wheelers riders. In about 30 percent road accidents two-wheelers were found involved, he said.
Transport Commissioner Sandeep Kumar Sultania addressing the gathering stated that across the country 5 lakh road accidents were taking place, killing about 1.50 persons annually. Of them 20, 000 occur in Telangana state. The transport department has planned numerous awareness programmes to sensitise public, mainly youth, on the need of strictly following road safety measures. He asked the parents to explain their children about the harmful impacts of violating road safety rules.
Parents should not allow their minor children to drive two or four wheelers. ‘Life is precious and it should not be wasted because of one’s negligence,’ he added. Brochures on road safety were released on the occasion. District Collector V Karuna, Joint Collector Prashanth Patil, Deputy Transport Commissioner Shiva Lingaiah, rural additional SP John Wesley and others were present.
In another programme at Chaitanya Degree and PG College Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu said more numbers of persons were losing their lives in road accidents than due to illness in the country. The traffic rules were meant for public safety and violating them would put their life danger. ACP (Traffic) Ch Venkateswar Rao told students to abstain from deriving pleasure in violating traffic rules. Chaitanya Group of Colleges Secretary Ch Purushottam Reddy and others were present.
