Warangal: The leaders of Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) have alleged that the Central government was trying to interfere into the matters of universities and turning them into dens of fascist and communal forces. The SIO members took out a rally here on Thursday protesting against the bias against Dalit scholars at University of Hyderabad campus.

They termed that death of UoH student Rohith Vemula as institutionalised murder. SIO district unit president Md Arshad and Warangal city wing president Md Mustafeez-ul Haq and others demanded removal of Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya from the Union cabinet for his involvement in UoH affairs resulting in death of Rohit.

University V-C Prof P Appa Rao should be removed from his post as he failed to deliver justice and maintain peace inside the campus. ABVP leader Susheel Kumar should be arrested for creating violence inside the campus, they said. They demanded that an independent committee should be formed to investigate the matter without involving the HCU administration.

The government must provide compensation to the family of Rohit and his pending fellowship amount should be released, the SIO members added. Prof Faizan Mustafa Committee recommendations for university to provide healthy academic and social environment to Dalit students must be implemented by all universities of the State. “The SIO appeals students not to commit suicides, as suicide is not the solution,” they said.
