Hyderabad: In the wake of the terror incidents across the country, the Central Intelligence officials have put Hyderabad on high-alert. The city police have been asked to keep tight vigil keeping in view the forthcoming Republic Day.

The directive to the Hyderabad and Cyberabad police has come following intelligence inputs in the wake of terror attack at Pathankot Air Base. The Intelligence has asked the twin commissionerate police to maintain tight vigil at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), places of public gathering in private and government establishments.

The RGIA officials have already issued guidelines preventing entry of visitors into the airport till January 31 this year after receiving the terror alert. Alerted police have started cordon and search operations at localities of potential threat and detained several persons.

Vehicle checking and frisking was also being done at several parts of the city, especially in the bordering areas of Hyderabad and Cyberabad. The police have also been verifying the vehicles entering the city from outside, especially from other states.

“We have high alert in Hyderabad following the Pathankot airbase attack. Though, the inputs were not specifically about the types of attacks, city police are asked to maintain high vigil for public safety,” said a senior police official from Special Branch.

He said that vehicle and passenger checks were also on at bus stations and railway stations preventing the entry of suspects.The officer also said that extra force was being called for security and also in the wake of the GHMC elections that would be held within a week’s time after the Republic Day. “Necessary security measures have been taken and we are alert,” the officer said.
