The Nizamabad district stood first in effective implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) programme at national level. Instead of the scheduled target of 1.24 crore working days, 1.39 crore working days have been provided under the scheme in the district for 2015 to 16. 

Nizamabad: The Nizamabad district stood first in effective implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) programme at national level. Instead of the scheduled target of 1.24 crore working days, 1.39 crore working days have been provided under the scheme in the district for 2015-16.

District Collector Yogita Rana will receive the national award at New Delhi at a programme on February 2. The Collector, Yogita Rana, said she was happy that they were able to provide 15 lakh additional working days under MGNREGA than the target. DWMA PD Venkatesham said Rs 198 crore was paid to the workers under the scheme in the district in 2015-16 financial year.

He said that they are generating NREGA pay orders within three days in the district. The NREGA national team had visited the district last month and observed the works, payment system and other key issues of the NREGA and expressed satisfaction over the implementation of the scheme, he added.

The PD said they were allotting works to SC, ST and disabled persons equally. 52,514 SC families; 25,487 ST; 3,948 disabled, 1,165 disabled groups; and 33,550 Shrama Shakti groups under the NREGA works. He said about Rs 500 crore worth works have been identified in the district under the scheme to provide works till June, 2016.
