Hyderabad: The PIL bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising Acting Chief Justice Dilip B Bhosale and Justice SV Bhatt adjourned to Monday a petition alleging that there were gross irregularities by private companies in developing the Old Gandhi Medical College area. The bench was dealing with a public interest writ petition filed by Chandra Kishore Jaiswal of the city.

Bajrang Singh Thakur, counsel for the petitioner complained that two private entities M/s GSG Constructions Pvt Ltd and M/s Pantaloon Retail (India) Limited (Knowledge House) did not fulfil the objective of constructing a commercial mall, multiplexes, hospitalities etc. so far in the Old Gandhi Medical College land.

Telangana Additional Advocate General J Ramachandra Rao informed the Hyderabad High Court that the said two private companies had, in fact, as alleged, not started the said development process. He supported the petitioner’s claim that the companies have committed gross financial irregularities after obtaining lease over government owned 5.5 acres of prime property in Basheerbagh area of the city.

The petitioner’s counsel pointed out that the companies had not paid the annual lease amount of Rs 4 crore and the dues had gone up to Rs 25 crore. The bench too was surprised when the counsel for the private parties said that the State had waived the dues.

“How can the State waive such dues? who waived them? Tell us by Monday”, the bench said. Refusing to go by the private parties’ argument that they had indeed raised some constructions there, the bench directed them to provide latest photographs of the area. “We will verify whether your claims are correct or not”, the bench said and posted the case to Monday.
