As part of the National Road Safety Week 2016, a walkathon was organised by the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Hyderabad in association with Maruti Suzuki Ltd and Indian Federation of Road Safety on Monday.

The highlight of the event was the group of artistes who performed burra katha on Road Safety theme in major malls of the city and conducted 56 road shows in total. Flagged off by eminent dignitaries, around 2,000 participants from Police, Transport, TSRTC, college students, employees of Maruti Suzuki and others took part in the Walkathon from People’s Plaza to Jalavihar.

As part of creating public awareness, Dr E Rajendra Kumar of Anurag Rehabilitation Centre, demonstrated techniques to handle an injured person in case of road accidents and the precautions to be taken in case of serious injuries.

Similarly, 108 put up a stall and gave a demo on rescue operation of an accident victim. In addition, a photo exhibition was organised by Maruti Suzuki Ltd and Indian Federation of Road Safety. As per the IFROS Chief Functionary, Vinod Kumar Kanumala, the Road Awareness Message through such road shows reached more than ten lakh people.

DG, Road Safety, Sunil Sharma, Principal Secretary, TR & B, Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Transport Commissioner, M Mahender Reddy, Commissioner of Police, Jitender, Addl Commissioner of Police, Traffic, T Raghunath, Joint Transport Commissioner,

Regional Manager, Maruti Suzuki Ltd and Vinod Kumar Kanumala, Chief Functionary, Indian Federation of Road Safety.The dignitaries spoke about the significance of conducting Road Safety week every year and importance of spreading awareness on road safety.
