​Mahbubnagar: District Collector T K Sridevi has called upon the youth and students who attain 18 years to enrol themselves as voters. The youth can lead the country on the path towards prosperity, she said. “Right to vote is a valuable weapon in the hands of people. It is everyone’s duty to create awareness among the people on the right to vote.

Particularly the youth on attaining 18 years should enrol themselves as voters and secure voter ID cards,” said the Collector, while inaugurating a friendly cricket match between journalist and the district officers at district stadium here on Sunday. As January 25 is celebrated as National Voter’s Day, to create awareness among the youth on value of the vote, the district Collector inaugurated a friendly cricket match between the district officers (XI) team and the journalists (XI) team.

The district officials from various departments also took part in Tyre Run and Jawlin Throw competition competitions on the occasion.
In the cricket match held between Officers (XI) and Journalist (XI), the Journalist team won the match with 23 runs. The Officers team was led by captain Laxminarayana, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer and the Journalist team was lead by Basavaraj.

Journalist team won the toss and batted first scoring 104 runs in 12 overs with a loss of 7 wickets. The officers’ team could score only 81 runs for 6 wickets in 12 overs. Venkat in journalist team scored 28 runs in just 23 balls with 2 fours and a six and was declared man of the match. From officer’s team, Joint Collector Ramkishan attracted everybody’s attention with his brilliant fielding skills.

In Tyre Run event, Govind Wongmore, District Medical and Health Officer won first prize, while Ramchander Revenue Division Officer second price and third prize went to Damodar Reddy, Project Director District Water Management Agency. Naveen of Excise Department won first prize in Jawlin Throw, while Ramchander RDO and Sarvaiah, Executive Director of SC Corporation won 2nd and 3rd prizes in Jawlin throw.

While distributing the prizes to the winners on the occasion, the district Collector said rallies and human chains would be organised at all the mandal headquarters to mark the Voters’ Day.
