The expo on glass sculptures and paintings by Prof Sisir Shana, principal of Visva Bharati University in Shantinikethan has drawn many enthusiasts and art lovers to the Aakriti Art Gallery at the Cultural Centre of Vijayawada on Monday.

Minister for Agriculture, Prathipati Pulla Rao inaugurated the exhibition, which is a visual treat for the connoisseurs of art. This is the first ever time that glass sculptures were exhibited in the city by Sisir, who learnt the art from London.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the State government has been keen on expanding the art galleries and provide world class exposure to the city based artists and painters.

The Fine Arts University that will be established in the capital region will offer contemporary and traditional art for the enthusiasts. Proposals to include glass sculpting art as a course, he said.

About 36 art pieces including glass paintings, acrylic paintings and glass sculptures were displayed at the expo. As glass sculpting and painting are the only art forms being taught as a course at Shantinikethan, a workshop will be held at the art gallery on Tuesday on ‘glass painting techniques’ where Sisir Shana will share his knowledge to the interested artists.

Director at the International Institute for Inclusive Museum Prof Amareswar Galla, CEO of Malaxmi Properties Venture Sandeep Mandava, CEO of CVV E Sivanagi Reddy, Advisor for Finearts M Balamani and others were present at the event.
