Hyderabad: A Division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Dilip B Bhosale and Justice S V Bhatt pulled up the Outlook magazine for its sexist comments against lady IAS officer Smita Sabharwal. Expressing unhappiness at the way the magazine published that item and the accompanying caricature, the Bench said they do not appreciate such sexist comments.

“How is fashion show connected to Government work. How can you show ministers participating in the fashion show in the caricature?”, the Bench asked the Counsel for Outlook magazine. The Bench was hearing a writ petition filed by the magazine challenging the G.O. No. 96 of Telangana government by which it sanctioned Rs 15 lakh amount to the IAS officer for legal expenses to fight the case against Outlook.

A Public Interest Litigation challenging the G.O. was also heard by the Bench simultaneously. The Counsels contended that granting of public money for prosecuting a private case of an official is a bad precedent and needs to be quashed.

The Advocate General of Telangana K Ramakrishna Reddy countered saying previous governments also issued such G.O.s The Bench refused the plea of the petitioner's counsel for early hearing saying there is no urgency in this matter.
