Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) has shot off a letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) seeking an extension of the time that has been given to take stock of the recommendations of the Supreme Court-instituted three-member Lodha Committee.
The BCCI had set a January 31 deadline to all member associations. It is understood that many State bodies are likely to urge for similar extensions.
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), which was to meet on Monday, deferred the same to a later date as its President Sharad Pawar has been hospitalised.
The HCA decision was taken by its Executive Committee that met at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium (RGICS) on Tuesday soon after hoisting the national flag commemorating the 67thRepublic Day.
The three suspended members were not invited while two missed out on the meeting that was chaired by President Arshad Ayub and attended by the four Vice-Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer, other EC members and a special invitee.
The members were asked to come up with their own take on the recommendations. A second round of meeting to discuss threadbare about the possible impact of the recommendations has been tentatively called for February 4 by when the replies of the members would be compiled.
The same would be sent to the BCCI. It is believed that an AGM involving all 216 members may be held in the second fortnight of February. HCA is likely to oppose some of the recommendations that have been made by the Justice Lodha panel.
In fact, this stance is likely to be adopted by several State bodies. For instance, MCA has made it categorically clear that most of the suggestions would be rejected as they were not viable to them.
The Lodha panel has reiterated that its suggestions were not binding either on BCCI or its member-bodies. For the records, even the parent body is taking exception to many recommendations that were put forth by the panel as part of the game’s cleansing roadmap.
