The seventh edition of the Republic Day Ride marked a significant achievement for the annual event—upto 50,000 riders have participated in over 20 rides so far since its inception in 2009. The cycling tradition had about 1,500 riders who participated this year at Gachibowli Stadium on Tuesday.

The 100 km ride was flagged off first at 5.30 am, followed by two more rides of 50 km and 25 km each. Prior to the flagging off, the riders were warmed up by Zumba trainer Abhimanika; riders danced as drums beat to pump up their energy.

The founder of Atlanta Foundation that organised the ride, Deena Harpanahalli explained the rules and gave the riders route details, which traversed a path starting from Gachibowli Stadium and progressed towards Shankarpally and beyond.

Later, the flag was hoisted by children of Gachibowli High School, Anjaiah Nagar Primary School, Siddiqnagar School and CNN Tanda School. The Republic Ride has strong support from IT and BPO multinationals, along with the event partners, who come together every year to raise funds for these schoolchildren.

“The Republic Ride provides a unique cycling experience with a chance to make a positive difference to those who really need it,” said Deena Harapanahalli. Medals were distributed after successful completion of the rides.
