New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday served a notice on Telangana State Government seeking its reply within four weeks to a petition filed on removal of a few castes from the reservation list. One G Babu Rao filed a petition contending that the Telangana State Government had arbitrarily removed 'Koppula Velama' from the BC category after the formation of the State.

After assuming power, the TRS Government delisted as many as 26 castes from the BC reservations list claiming there was no point in continuing the same for these people as these castes belonging to Andhra Pradesh and did not reside in Telangana.

The apex court's Chief Justice's bench issued a notice to the Telangana Government seeking an explanation and directed it to respond within four weeks. It may be recalled that earlier representatives of another caste 'Kalingulu" too approached the Supreme Court with a similar contention.
