In an unprecedented development, about 72 corporator aspirants from 150 divisions of the GHMC which will go to polls on February 2 have criminal record, it is found. Of them 64 are men and eight are women.

The TRS tops the list of candidates with criminal record. It has 14 candidates followed by the TDP (13), the Congress (13), AIMIM 11, Independents (11), the BJP (4), other political parties (4) and MBT (2). According to Forum For Good Governance secretary M Padmanabha Reddy, Mulla Vikram Goud,

Mayoral candidate of the Congress in Jambagh division was booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 364A (kidnapping for ransom, etc.,) 386 (extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt).

Mohammed Majid Hussain, former Mayor from AIMIM in Mehdipatnam division has cases including IPC 38 (persons concerned in criminal act may be guilty of different offences), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), IPC 448 (house-trespass) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace).

P Vijaya Reddy, daughter of former Congress MLA P Janardhan Reddy and the TRS candidate from Khairatabad division was booked under some IPC sections. Ponna Venkata Ramana, BJP candidate from Shahalibanda division has six cases against his name including IPC section 147 (rioting) and 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon)

Mohammad Mustafa Ali, AIMIM candidate from Shahalibanda division has six cases under various IPC sections include 147(punishment for rioting), 148 and 448. Narsimha Rao, TRS candidate from B N Reddy Nagar division has five cases under various IPC sections including 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and others.

The list includes Mohammad Moosa Khasim and Mohammad Hashmath Ali from the Congress and CPI respectively in Pathergatti division, Yeshwanth Kumar from the TRS in Gowlipura division, Mohammad Sattar and Mohammadd Jabbar, both Independents in Chandrayangutta division, K Thara Bai from AIMIM and G Ravinder Naik, Independent, in Falaknuma division,

M Suman from the Congress and Narsimha Rao from TRS in B N Reddy Nagar division, Narasimha Yadav from the TRS in Old Bowenpally division, P Pratap Reddy from TDP in Mallapur division, Bhanuchander Mudiraj from BSP from Bholakpur division.
