Punjab’s Navneet Kaur won two gold medals in the 34th National Rowing Championship at Hussainsagar Lake here on Thursday. It was a doubly sweet affair as she was winning her maiden gold at the country’s highest level in the senior category.

Hyderabad: Punjab’s Navneet Kaur won two gold medals in the 34th National Rowing Championship at Hussainsagar Lake here on Thursday. It was a doubly sweet affair as she was winning her maiden gold at the country’s highest level in the senior category.

The 20-year-old Punjabi University student took 8.26.83sec to take the first place in the 2000mts Open Single Scull. Later, joining forces with Harpreet Singh, she romped home in the Open Pair competition.

I have won s silver in the double scull at the National Games in Kerala but beating two-time Asian Games Dittymol Varghese gives me confidence” she said after receiving the medal.

In the men single scull, Nasik’s 21-year-old Santosh Kadale won his maiden national gold, which was a major jump from the bronze he won in last year’s Challenger National at Bangalore, albeit in double scull.

Host Telangana men team had to be contended with a silver in the Open Men’s Coxless while K Tejeshwar Reddy bagged a bronze medal for Andhra Pradesh in single scull.
