Reconsider decision on drought-hit villages: Court

The two-judge PIL bench of the High Court at Hyderabad on Monday granted three weeks time to the Telangana State government to revisit the premise of exclusion of certain villages from the list of drought-affected areas in the state.

The bench of acting Chief Justice Dilip Bhosale and Justice P V Sanjay Kumar is hearing a writ plea filed by MLA T Jeevan Reddy that the excluded villages too were affected by drought but were excluded by the concerned committee on the ground that the area had a water source.

Senior Counsel appearing for the petitioner pointed out that the High Power committee had lost sight of the fact that while the area did have a water source, the source had dried up and therefore it was required to be declared as a drought-hit area. The bench granted three week time to the government to revisit the decision and come to a fresh conclusion.
