Hyderabad: Stressing the need for producing renewable energy, that is possible through non-conventional energy resources, Power Minister G Jagadish Reddy on Wednesday said the Telangana government was aiming to produce 5,000 MW solar energy by March and 50,000 MW renewable energy by 2017.

Talking to reporters in Delhi after representing Telangana State in the fourth Green Energy National Conference conducted by Indian Chamber of Commerce, the Minister said the meeting dealt with problems related to production of solar and wind energies.

The States showcased their proposals and plans for alternative energy production and sought to know about the use of new technology to boost power production in their respective regions, he said. The State government had produced 500 MW solar energy so far and called tenders in all districts for production of 3000 MW solar power by March next, he said.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao decided to set up solar sheets on all government offices and the exercise was on in this regard, he said. Stating that the government was committed to set up a solar power plant in Damaracharla in Nalgonda district, Jagadish Reddy said there was a need to produce alternate power to mitigate power woes.

The Power Minister also said that the government was giving impetus on production of alternate energy to augment the power sector. “We need to tap resources of solar, wind energy and solid waste management to bridge the gap of production and use the power, the Minister said. The entire nation was concentrating on alternative energies and there was a potential for solar energy, wind energy and energy through solid waste
management in Telangana State, he added.
