Jewellery with Terracota, Fibre, Paper and Beads are things of the past. The trends for youngsters and girls who like to experiment with fashion now have jewellery made out of Coconut shells, which are completely handmade.

The scarce and new kind of the jewellery is now exhibited at the ongoing Gandhi Shilp Bazar in the city. College going students are the most spotted trying the jewellery at the expo.

Pondicherry based entrepreneur Sinouvassin who is in the industry and is an artisan himself says, “The response is very good from girls and students. This is the first time I visited the city with my product and it is liked very much.

The products are designed to suit the latest needs of College going girls and working women. Not just fashion products but household and kitchenware items are also for sale. Back home, we have a workshop where we do direct sales.

As many as three workers are trained in the craft that render their services in hand buffing the shell before the design is traced with pencil and carved with tools.”

From long and big sized earrings to the simple hangings, animal shaped, flower shaped earrings, kadas, necklaces, money saving kiddy banks, ice cream cups, ladles, spoons, light holders and flower vases, there are more to offer from the product.

However, price of these products are slightly higher, given that they are handmade and include a lot of efforts in the making. Price factor is not stopping young girls from picking up a few of their favourite pieces to add to their funky jewellery collection.
