Medaram (Warangal): The State government has been making elaborate arrangements for the biannual Medaram Sammakka Saralamma Jatara for the convenience of devotees, Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari said. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has taken the jatara in a prestigious manner as it was taking place for the first time in separate Telangana.

The State government has been spending about Rs 150 crore on the arrangements to celebrate the jatara in a grand manner. Majority of works have neared completion. The officials were directed to complete the pending works by February 10. Since the rush of devotees was expected to begin on February 13 and 14, the officials of police, revenue and other departments were asked to step up their functioning.

Informing the jatara schedule, Srihari said Saralamma would arrive at Gaddelu (altar) on February 17, Sammakka would be brought on February 18 and both the deities would adorn the altar on February 19, the main event of the jatara. The ‘Vanapravesham’ of the deities would take place on February 20.

The Deputy CM along Endowments Minister A Indrakaran Reddy, Tourism Minister A Chandulal, MP A Seetharam Naik, Warangal range DIG B Malla Reddy, rural SP Ambar Kishor Jha, District Collector V Karuna and others visited Medaram on Wednesday.

He reviewed the progress of arrangements. Since the flow of the devotees would increase during the coming weekend it was decided to deploy additional police personnel. Arrangements like drinking water, electricity and toilets have been made on full scale.

Special focus was laid on sanitation issue at the village and entire jatara place has been divided into 38 sectors for effective monitoring, Srihari sought the officials of all departments to work with effective coordination. On the day, the Deputy CM and the ministers offered prayers at Gaddelu and have attended the swearing ceremony of Medaram temple revival committee chaired by Kaka Lingaiah.

They also inaugurated renovated flooring and grills at Gaddelu, newly built bathing ghats, dormitories, shopping complex and others at the village. Joint collector Prashanth J Patil, Mulug assistant SP, Vishwajeeth Kampati, ITDA Project Officer Amoy Kumar, Assistant Collector Sandeep Kumar, Medaram Jatara Executive Officer T Ramesh Babu and others were present.
