New Delhi: Panchayat Raj and IT Minister K T Rama Rao came in for praise at a national conclave on drinking water and sanitation as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan here on Wednesday. The conference was organised by the Ministry concerned to take stock of the ground realities in different states in the country in this regard.

Rama Rao’s power point presentation detailing the Mission Bhagiratha’s salient features and his government’s drinking water supply initiatives and the effective coordination mechanisms put in place at both State and district levels came in for applause as the contents were crisp and lucid. Apart from funding and resource mobilisation, the progress of intake structures and implementation status was also detailed by him.

He also explained how this programme would lead to improved sanitation, health and hygiene while drastically reducing waterborne diseases apart from improving drinking water facilities to schools and Anganwadis.

On programmes undertaken under Swachh Bharat Mission, he said the target for achieving 100 per cent Swachh Telangana was October 2, 2019 and he was confident that his government would reach the milestone by then. Various measures like rural sanitation, programme of providing individual household toilets, etc were explained by him.

The Union Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation Birendra Singh congratulated the ‘young and dynamic Minister’ after the presentation and said it was one of the best ever PowerPoint Presentation which was ‘better than that of the bureaucrats’.
