Hyderabad: Opining that intra-party differences led to the party’s rout in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections, Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee president Danam Nagender tendered his resignation to the party post owning moral responsibility for the debacle in the GHMC elections.

Speaking to media persons at his residence here on Saturday after tendering resignation to the party post, Nagendar said he had spared no efforts for the party victory though he was not given responsibility of GHMC elections.

He said the ruling party succeeded in wooing the voters, and added that the traditional voters of the Congress including the SC, ST, BC and Minorities had drifted away from the party, resulting in the party rout in the GHMC elections. He said he had already sent a detailed report to the party high command on the reasons that led to the party biting dust in the civic body elections.

Stating that defeat and victory were common in the elections, Danam said he would continue in the party as an activist. He said he would extend his cooperation to the developmental activities of the State government. “I honour the verdict of the people.

The TRS has to work sincerely to meet the aspirations of the people of Hyderabad and it has to fulfil the assurances given to the people,” he said. He said the Congress would mount pressure on the State government to fulfil the assurances made by it. He urged the party leaders to bury differences for the sake of the welfare of the party and the public.
