New Delhi: Telangana State government has taken exception to the argument that Icchampally had 720 tmcft of surplus waters and hence Telangana was exploiting the situation. Continuing with the argument that the Telangana State was being deprived of its rightful share of waters at a meeting of the eight States called for by the Union Minister for Water Resources, here on Friday, Vidyasagar Rao, Advisor to the Telangana government, said the water available at the spot was only 270 tmcft.

The meeting was called for to discuss inter-linking of river waters. There was no question of surplus waters being available at Icchampally and these calculations pertained to and based on the calculations made some 25 years ago.

Vidyasagar Rao said a relook was necessary by the Centre to do justice to Telangana which had been exploited by the neighbouring States as well as by the rulers of the newly formed Andhra Pradesh who continued their animosity against Telangana even after bifurcation.Rao later claimed that the Union Minister for Water Resources, Uma Bharati, had asked the officials to go for fresh assessment of the water availability.
