Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Tuesday informed the High Court at Hyderabad its intention of amending the Registration Act 1908 by making a provision not to register unauthorised buildings or plots in the State. The government submitted an affidavit in response to a petition filed by Jaan Mohammed alias Shahan of the city.

The petitioner had approached the court complaining that his neighbour was constructing a building in violation of the sanctioned plan without leaving any setbacks. The State government informed the court that the present amendment of the Act was similar to the amendments made by the Tamil Nadu government. The government further submitted to the court that the consideration of the court to set up a Town Planning Tribunal by making a provision to Section 452,461 and 463 of Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HMC) Act was under examination.

The government said the Telangana Public Service Commission had already issued a notification to fill 200 vacancies in the GHMC to overcome the staff crunch. The GHMC had identified 865 constructions out of which 340 were demolished after following due process of law and 31 criminal cases were also booked against the persons carrying illegal constructions. After perusing the affidavit and hearing the arguments, the court reserved the order in the case.
