Anup Yama strikes century in medals tally
It\'s been a rocking performance by the Telangana Artistic Roller Skaters who have rolled their way to victory at the 53rd Annual National Artistic Roller Skating Championship in Ahmedabad, Gujrat.
It's been a rocking performance by the Telangana Artistic Roller Skaters who have rolled their way to victory at the 53rd Annual National Artistic Roller Skating Championship in Ahmedabad, Gujrat.
The team led by Arjuna Awardee Anup Kumar Yama bagged a total of eight Golds, five Silvers and four Bronze Medals. Anup himself bagging four Golds out of them and stood as the undisputed champion of Indian Roller Skating.
With this, Anup has marked his 100th National Gold Medal in Skating, a milestone which he has achieved after skating for 28 years.It was an exciting experience for the young Telangana team with a lot of skaters below 12 years of age for whom it was a first time experience at the national level.
"The National Championship was a wonderful experience for the Telangana skaters. Their performance was at par with skaters who have skated since many years. The Skating Rink at Ahmedabad was a wonderful quota stone surface and all the skaters enjoyed skating on this highly polished slippery surface, gaining a lot of experience,” said the caption, Anup.
He added, “The Telangana Skaters are highly talented but due to lack of skating rinks and infrastructure in the State, the skaters could not give their optimal best at the championship. Their performance would have been much better if our skaters had good skating rinks in Hyderabad.
I once again urge the government and the Sports authority of Telangana State authorities to provide international standard skating rinks so that these skaters can be trained professionally.”
