Hyderabad: Corporator Bontu Ramamohan, who has been elected from Cherlapally is likely to be the first mayor of the Baldia and Baba Fasiuddin is said to be the party choice for deputy mayor in the new state of Telangana. Elections for both the posts will be held on Thursday.

The official announcement of the names would be made at 8 am on Thursday. Meanwhile, the GHMC made all arrangements to conduct the election of the mayor and deputy mayor and also to administer oath to the newly elected corporators in the Council Hall of GHMC headquarters near Tank Bund at 11 am.

The mayoral election will begin with the swearing-in ceremony of 150 newly elected corporators followed by nominations to elect the mayor and the deputy mayor. The ex-officio members will raise their hand as a sign of approval to the proposed mayoral and deputy mayoral candidates.

To win the mayoral post, political parties require 109 votes of the total of 217 members. The ex-officio number of the TRS has been increased to 35 with Quthbullapur MLA KP Vivekanand joining it. Since this is first time that mayoral election is being held in the council hall, the GHMC is taking precautions not to cause any inconvenience to the corporators or ex-officio members.

A total of 217 members including (67 ex-officio members) including newly elected 150 corporators will elect
