Hyderabad: A businessman from Chikkadpally has been apprehended by the Task Force Police on Thursday for organising betting on cricket matches.

The police said Dinesh Agarwal of Domalguda was apprehended from Puranapool in Hussaini Alam police station limits while he was collecting amount from punters for the T 20 match that was held between India and Sri Lanka in Pune on February 9. Dinesh hatched a plan to earn easy money by organising betting in Hyderabad with the help of one Agarwal of Delhi.

The accused used to update the betting rate passed on by Agarwal for Rs 6,000 commission. He also maintained various small gangs to run betting at various places in the city by collecting huge money from the local organiser.

Up on his arrest, the East Zone Task Force Police seized Rs 1.79 lakh cash, 29 mobile phones and two multi-line caller kits. The accused had been handed over to the Hussaini Alam police for further action and efforts are on to nab the absconding, said Task Force Additional DCP N Koti Reddy.
