Keeping private engineering colleges in the view, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has revised some norms with regards to the affiliation process. According to new norms, the colleges can have 80 per cent of regular staff and 20 per cent of visiting professors or industrial experts. Earlier, it was mandatory for the colleges to have cent per cent regular staff.

Hyderabad: Keeping private engineering colleges in the view, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has revised some norms with regards to the affiliation process. According to new norms, the colleges can have 80 per cent of regular staff and 20 per cent of visiting professors or industrial experts. Earlier, it was mandatory for the colleges to have cent per cent regular staff.

Further, the council has reduced the computer and students ratio in the computer labs. While it was 1:4 computers to student ratio, it has been changed to 1:6. Similarly it has reduced land area from 10 acres to 7.5 acres for a college. It also reduced 25 per cent of the classrooms.

Meanwhile, following delaying affiliation process during last year, the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad has begun the affiliation process for 2016-17. The university intends to complete entire process of affiliation by the end of May.

Accordingly, the university has issued a notification inviting online applications from the private new existing engineering, pharmacy, MBA, MCA colleges in the State. The last date to apply is February 29. In this regard, the university has called for video conference with the private engineering college managements wherein affiliation process, preparedness of the colleges. The colleges have been told about the requirements for affiliation process.

“Everything will be done in the transparent manner by involving various stakeholders. We will complete the process at the earliest and will not leave room for colleges to knock the doors of the High Court over affiliations,” said Prof M Yadaiah, Registrar, JNTU-H

While the JNTU-H has issued notification for affiliation, the inspection would only start after the technical council gives permission for new and closure of colleges. The council has called for applications from the colleges for opening and closure and fixed February 21 as a deadline to apply.
