The Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister, K Taraka Rama Rao directed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials on Friday to take immediate steps and prepare action plans to control the stray dog menace in the city limits.

Moved by the death news of Sony, KTR telephoned the GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy and directed him for the matter. Janardhan Reddy assured the Minister that he would setup sterilisation camps to control the menace.

Sony, a seven-year-old girl, was the only child of Anuradha and Sanga Reddy, a daily wage worker living in Yadava Basti in Kapra division. She had fallen down and suffered a head injury while trying to escape dogs. She died at the Osmania General Hospital fighting for her life on Thursday.

According to the locals, stray dogs were charging at each other and the girl threw stones to shoo them away. The dogs then pounced on her. She suffered head injuries as she fell. They said that the incident took place on February 9 at the front yard of their house. Interestingly, no complaint was registered.
