Hyderabad: The Joint Action Committee for Social Justice-University of Hyderabad (JAC-UoH) on Saturday demanded the immediate release of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Students’ Union President Kanhaiya Kumar, who was arrested on charges of sedition at the behest of the Union Home Ministry.

The JAC said it was outraged by the arrest of Kanhaiya Kumar. It stated that the JNU administration had made a list of students who expressed solidarity at the UoH in support of justice for Rohith. It further stated that the JNU administration has keep aside the autonomy of the university and gave a free hand to Delhi police to barge inside the campus and harass the students.

The JAC alleged that Kanhaiya was arrested for visiting the UoH to extend solidarity to the students. “Even after JNUSU made clear its stand condemning anti-India slogans raised by some fringe elements, the arrest seems to be a move to divert attention away from the institutional murder of Rohith,” the JAC added.

In another development, the JAC condemned the disturbance caused by ABVP members during its meeting at Mahatma Gandhi University in Nalgonda district as part of the bus yatra in support of the cause 'Justice for Rohith'.
