According to the traffic police, the SC Committee has recommended the pillion riders to compulsorily use headgears for their own safety, in order to reduce the road accident deaths. The Regional Transport Authorities of Hyderabad also informed that more number of deaths in accidents involving bikes were of pillion riders.

Traffic DCP A V Ranganath said from February 22, the traffic personnel would start enforcement against the MV Act violators in more stringent manner. So far, about 1,800 motorists without helmets have been penalised and have been counseled.

“The SC Committee ordered to counsel the MV Act violators for minimum two hours before imposing fine. Repeated violators will lose their driving license and may also be prosecuted by the courts,” the DCP added.
