The Mayor B Rammohan, GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy and senior officials visited Cherlapally on Monday to inspect the lakes in the ward. As part of the visit, the team visited Cherlapally and Kapra Lake. The Mayor informed that 168 lakes in the GHMC limits would be developed and converted into picnic spots. 

The Mayor B Rammohan, GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy and senior officials visited Cherlapally on Monday to inspect the lakes in the ward. As part of the visit, the team visited Cherlapally and Kapra Lake. The Mayor informed that 168 lakes in the GHMC limits would be developed and converted into picnic spots.

So far proposals for 34 lakes are in progress. As part of the development, walking track, gardening, fountain, seating arrangements and lighting are being taken up. Mayor directed the officials to come up with measures to see that effluents do not enter the lake.

The Cherlapally Lake spread over 58 acres was once pristine but over the years due to effluents has become polluted. Nearby industries let out industrial waste into the lake. The Mayor directed the officials to provide for a sewerage treatment plant at the earliest.

There are about 150 fishing families residing around the Cherlapally Lake. Residents say that the nala which was 20 feet is now just 5 feet. C N Raghu Prasad, Zonal Commissioner (East), Chief Engineers Imtiyaz Ahmed, Suresh, Saroja, Deputy Commissioner, Shekar Reddy, Executive Engineer were part of the visit.
