KCR urged to rechristen Dummugudem project
Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy on Monday urged Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to consider renaming of proposed Dummugudem Irrigation Project as ‘Sri Rama Indira Rajiv Sagar Project’ since both the Indira Sagar and Rajiv Sagar have merged in the proposed Dummugudem Irrigation Project.

Hyderabad: Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy on Monday urged Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to consider renaming of proposed Dummugudem Irrigation Project as ‘Sri Rama Indira Rajiv Sagar Project’ since both the Indira Sagar and Rajiv Sagar have merged in the proposed Dummugudem Irrigation Project.
Ponguleti addressed a letter to the Chief Minister in this regard on Monday. He also mentioned in the letter that if the Polavaram national project was constructed, according to some irrigation experts, there was a danger of submergence of Bhadrachalam temple town along with Dummugudem tribal mandal.
“In this connection, I would like to remind you that the Telangana government passes a unanimous resolution for change of the Polavaram irrigation project design in the present form.
Hence, I request the Chief Minister to take the initiative by apprising the Union government of the situation for necessary action in the larger interests of the people of the area to protect their constitutional rights”, he said.
He also urged the Chief Minister to take immediate steps for construction of Bayyaram Steel Plant as mentioned in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act to ensure all-round development of the area.
He also mentioned that there was acute drinking water problem in the entire district, especially in the remote villages. In this connection, the Congress party urged the Chief Minister to grant adequate funds to meet the crisis immediately, he added.
