Mancheriyal (Adilabad): The Singareni Collieries Company Limited management has made arrangements to conduct the Sammakka-Saralakka festival in the coal belt area, albeit on a minor scale, to prevent glitch in coal production because of coalminers abstaining themselves from work to take part in the festival.

Noticing that the coal production was affected due to miners taking part in the festival, the management has been holding the Medaram festival on a small scale for the last five years at Mandamarri, Srirampur, Goleti and Bellampalli erecting Gaddes to enable the Singareni workers to fulfil their vows.

The SCCL CMD asked officials to make arrangements for holding the mini festival in all areas to ensure uninterrupted production as the SCCL is on the verge of reaching annual target for coal production. Following the directive, the SCCL officials earmarked a special budget for the event.

They have been exhorting the workforce to fulfil their vows so as not to cause any interruption to coal production. The Sammakka-Saralamma festival – the biggest in Asia – is celebrated once in two years at Medaram.

People throng the place as the deities worshipped during the event fulfil their wishes. Since 1940, the event is celebrated at Chilakalagutta. Over a period of time, the event grew bigger and devotees started thronging the venue not only from country but also from overseas.
