Kuchipudi dance fest gets off to a colourful start

A four-day Kuchipudi dance festival got off to a colourful start at Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Government Music and Dance College in the city on Wednesday. Pasumarthi Ramalinga Sastry and his troupe presented `Gajananeyam’ ballet on the inaugural day of the festival being organised by the Vijayawada Cultural Academy.

Pasumarthi Ramalinga Sastry and his troupe presented `Gajananeyam’ ballet on the inaugural day of the festival being organised by the Vijayawada Cultural Academy. The ballet was written by D Vaikuntha Narayana Sastry and music was composed by DSV Sastry.

Dancers Vedantam Raghava, Ajay Sreenivasa Chakravarthy, Surendranath, Subba Raju, Eleswarapu Venkateswarlu, Prasad, Sireesha, Chinmayi, Mahita, Prasanthi and Rajyalakshmi performed well. Palaparthi Anjaneyulu on violin, Rajagopalachari on mridangam, VL Narayana on veena and Murali on flute lent good support to the ballet.

The melodious voice of DSV Sastry and Pasumarthi Padmavathi made it more elegant. Kuchipudi Natyaramam Chairman Kuchibhotla Anand, Manepalli Lakshmi, MC Das, Tondepu Hanumantha Rao, N Ch Butchaiah Charyulu and others attended the inaugural function of the dance festival. Vijayawada Cultural Academy general secretary Seeram Subrahmanyam conducted the programme.
